The IRS announced that there is an estimated 984,400 taxpayers who did not file a federal income tax return for 2009. Those non-filers may be eligible for refunds totaling just over $917 million. Some of these taxpayers may not have earned enough income to require them to file a tax return in 2009. However, many of them had taxes withheld from their wages or made estimated payments that would result in a refund had they filed.
If you or someone you know are one of the 984,400 taxpayers who did not file a 2009 federal tax return and are entitled to a refund, you can get your money without paying a penalty! To do this, you must properly address, mail, and postmark your return by April 15, 2013. If you miss the deadline, the money becomes the property of the U.S. Treasury and you lose it forever!
